This field of science assist in diagnose of skin and mucus membrane cancers, and inflammatory diseases which are not easily diagnosed by a mere eye vision due to their rareness or to their similarity to other diseases.

The procedure include taking a tissue from the affected skin, hair, nail, oral or genital mucosa, then the tissue send to the Laboratory for preparation and examination by the microscope.
